LOVE

So I’ve been writing a friend lately because she has been struggling and feeling a bit overwhelmed by life and as I was writing my email to her I thought that what I was writing might be something other people need to hear, so here it is.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31
“God’s love was revealed among us in this way; God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.”  1 John 4:9,10
I read these verses and I think about my relationship with God and it always brings me to my experience as a mother. We don’t love our children because they love us, we love our children because they are our children.  God wanted a closer relationship with mankind (us, his children) and the only way he could do that was to send one final sacrificial lamb.  God doesn’t need us to be perfect, in the same way we don’t need and would never expect our kids to be perfect.  He just wants us to come to him and let him love us.  God doesn’t hold us to blame, he knows we aren’t perfect and he offered us a way, through Jesus, to come to him in spite of our imperfections.  Hold on to that when you are being hard on yourself and remember that God is for you.
“Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”  John 3:17.
I’m sending you another song too.  Music just lifts up my heart and helps me tap into my emotions.
God Bless,
Meredith

  1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and faith. It is His great commission for us and a blessing to use our gifts for His purposes. Love is His first 2 and greatest commandments. Here is my favorite verses on the this.

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.
    John 15:12‭-‬17 ESV

Grace and peace to You, David and the boys.

    1. I love the books of John because they really are all about what that verse exemplifies. I love that verse and I hold those two commandments close to my heart. I always try to remember when we condemn ourselves and others for not being perfect that all Jesus wants of us to love each other the way he loves us. As always, you provide wisdom and grace and I feel blessed to know you.

      2. Ha ha, you would be hard pressed to recommend a C.S. Lewis book I haven’t read and I’m almost positive I referenced Mere Christianity in my blog today. I have never heard of Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secrets so it’s going on my list of purchase. Thanks for all of your support Jerry.
